Hi, Brett. Great question. Why do so many great track athletes come from Jamaica? Well, I think, you know, track and field has been the most important sport for Jamaicans for many, many years. It's the most popular sport. Jamaicans are very, very, very passionate about running. I think genetics play a great role in our success in track and field. And I also believe that we have one of the best youth systems in the world. So we tend to produce a lot more good athletes at an early age. And those athletes tend to maturate out of high school and transition to college and the pros. I think the pure determination of the people trying to get out of the country, trying to get more exposure has made track and field a good avenue to go over to the U.S. for university scholarships and things like that. But I just think that the pure determination and pride, genetics, another avenue for success for generations to come has made great athletes from Jamaica a mainstay in athletics. Thank you.

It was my first Olympics, I was a freshman in university, only 19 years old, and it kind of set the tone for my career. Sanjay Ayre is a retired world-class Jamaican sprinter who specialized in the 400 meters. He won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics, a 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championship Gold medal, and three World Outdoor Championship medals. During his 15-year international career, he won 11 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals at both the junior and senior levels. He graduated from Auburn University with a full athletic scholarship and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology. In 2003, he signed a shoe contract with Puma.
