Mastering the 1500m: The Art of Knowing Your Strengths and Weaknesses

There's a lot of different methods of racing the 1500 meter. You have to know your strengths and your weaknesses, but also you have to do your studies about the others, what their strengths and weaknesses are. For me, when I was in high school and collegiate 1500 meter runner, I knew my strength was not to be able to have the stamina, not a great finish in the last 150 or 200 meter or perhaps even 400 meter to go. So I have to go out really hard and hold on for dear life. And that's how I beat the most talented and other talented people that I'm competing against. Get the kick of their legs out as soon as you can. Sometimes I go 59 lap on my first lap versus on my last lap because I know I have to push the pace early on and they get intimidated by going out so fast. So you got to know your strengths and your weaknesses and also acknowledge theirs because you don't want to be in a dual 100 meter finish if your strength is not a kicker. So for me, I learned a very valuable lesson when I was in high school.

Therefore, my strategy was to start the race at a fast pace and hold on for dear life. By getting ahead early on, I could disrupt the kicks of other talented runners I was competing against. Sometimes, I would even run a 59-second first lap compared to a slower last lap because I wanted to intimidate my opponents by starting strong. It's crucial to know your strengths and weaknesses and also be aware of your competitors' abilities. You don't want to find yourself in a sprint finish if that's not where your strength lies. This lesson was an important one that I learned during my time in high school.

What do marathoners think of barefoot runners?

Marathoners' Mixed Views on Barefoot Runners

Why do marathon think of barefoot Runners, you know? H is for someone, I'm very happy content with my Skechers shoes but I see people run marathon and half marathon on pavement and I can get a little green tea because I just felt that hurts and bad at the same time. If you want to do running on pavement for half marathon a marathon, I would recommend it but shorter races you can because I've ever Kayla. Who won the Olympics with therefore, he grew up with that and he did not have shoes and then go back to Barefoot. So figure out what shoes and got it and go back to barefoot running. I wouldn't recommend it, but I have done barefoot running on the grass and strides when I was in college and also other professional. So to just to strengthen the Arches and the plantar fascia and not build up calluses, okay to do on soft grass, some running, but I would not recommend it for full Marathon so, but if that's your style, I'll go at it.

What do marathoners think of barefoot runners? Well, as a marathon runner myself, I can say that opinions vary. Personally, I am quite content with my Skechers shoes for running. However, I have seen people running marathons and half marathons barefoot on pavement, and it can make me a bit curious and skeptical. Running on pavement without any shoes can be painful and potentially harmful.

If you are considering running a marathon or half marathon on pavement, I would not recommend going barefoot. However, for shorter races or training runs, some runners have found success with barefoot running. There are even Olympic athletes like Abebe Bikila who won the marathon barefoot, but it's important to note that he grew up running barefoot and then transitioned back to it.

Personally, I have tried barefoot running on grass for short strides to strengthen my arches and plantar fascia, but I wouldn't recommend it for a full marathon. It's okay to do some barefoot running on soft grass to build strength, but I would advise against it for longer distances on harder surfaces.

Ultimately, if barefoot running is your preferred style and you feel comfortable and confident in it, then go for it. However, it's important to consider the potential risks and make an informed decision based on your own preferences and needs.

How would you compare the Boston and NYC marathon?

Comparing the Prestigious Boston and NYC Marathons: Course, Support, and Prestige

The New York City Marathon and the Boston Marathon are very comparable because they are both challenging courses. I think those are the two most prestigious marathons in the United States, if not in the world, but they are almost identical in terms of the hills and the downhills and the course, how challenging it is. I like New York because you go through the five pros and the culture is different. I like Boston because you go from point to point and you go to the different city towns or cities through that, so it's a great support that you get. And the support you get both marathons is amazing. It's electrifying because people support it. They have the sports of football, basketball, and baseball, both cities, and now the marathon on Sunday and Boston Marathon Monday is as well as epic as it can get for runners. So I feel they're very comparable in terms of the course and to the enthusiasm and also the prestige. So I've been fortunate enough to be in the middle of the pack with them and in the front of the pack and be able to win both, so it's the only time that New York and Boston people get along when I show my medals, whether it was New York or Boston, so I can make both of them happy. So keep on pushing, but if you have to choose one, I have to say New York, but at the same time, Boston Marathon is the most meaningful victory that I ever had.

What’s your relationship with Coach Larsen like?

Coach Larson: A Father Figure and Mentor in Athletics

My relationship with Coach Larson has been amazing. I got to meet him when I was 18 and a half years old or so. He's been a father figure to me, not only as a coach, but as a role model, about life in general, and coaching, and academics, and social life as well. He's been a great, great mentor and coach for long of my career as a collegiate and as a professional, both from the 1500 meter all the way to the marathon. What he is is an amazing human being, and very genuine and caring. I cherish that to this day, and so we text each other here and there to be able to share our memories. Sometimes I even send him a text when I won the silver medal, or when I won New York, or Boston, or other races just to kind of reminisce and cherish those moments. Without him, obviously I wouldn't have accomplished the things I have accomplished, so I'm very blessed to have him as a coach.

Coach Larson has been a great mentor, father figure and coach to me since I was 18. He has helped me in my career as a Collegiate and professional athlete and I cherish our relationship. We still keep in touch and reminisce about past victories.

Will hill sprints help with leg strength and speed in a mile race? 

Hill sprints: The secret to stronger, faster legs in mile races

Hill sprints definitely help with the lack of strength and also speed for the mile because they kind of force you to get out of your comfortable zone and breathe harder, but internally the muscles are, I think, stronger because the strength they build over time. And you know, hills are hard, riding's hard, hills are harder, but at the same time if you can just plan for it and put some training into, hill training into your program, I think it can help you be very beneficial for racing in the mile. I used to love hills, even for the marathon, all I did hills, and then for 1500 meters and cross country, all those events that I did in high school, college, and professionally, hill was part of the training cycle that I had, and especially, you know, when I was in high school, to get ready for the 1600 meter or the 3200 meter, which is also the 1600 meters of mile. So, I think hills are uncomfortable, but it can help you in the long run.

Maximize Marathon Recovery: Proven Tips for Success

The key to life and to get to the marathon is all about preparation. I think getting to a marathon, the key is to prepare to the best you can. And how you recover from that becomes the result of all your hard work. If you worked hard and done the work as much as you can, you're going to get to the finish line as strong. But how do you recover from that is also important because if you hit the wall on mile 17, you struggle for the 9 miles, the recovery is going to be difficult. But if you hit the wall on mile 20 or 24, it will be easier because you toughened it out for 3 miles or 4 miles. Now the recovery will be a lot easier. So I do a lot of ice baths. I've done the past. Soft tissue massage and stretching. I always use U-can. Also sports drinks right away, immediately. And I think just being able to put Epsom salt and Normatec. A few other things that you can do to help you recover faster. A marathon is a challenge. Your body just went to the maximum demand of it. And how you recover is doing the small things that make a big difference even though you might not feel like it. So you have to recover. And protein is very important as well.

The key to running a marathon is preparation. You should work hard and do all you can to prepare, but also remember to recover by taking ice baths, stretching, using Epsom salt and protein to help your body recover faster after the race.

If you've trained diligently, you're more likely to finish strong and experience a smoother recovery. Hitting the wall at different points in the race also affects the recovery process. If you hit it earlier, around mile 17, and struggle for the remaining 9 miles, recovery will be more challenging. However, if you tough it out until mile 20 or 24, recovery becomes easier as you've already pushed through several difficult miles.

To aid in recovery, I recommend taking ice baths, receiving soft tissue massages, and engaging in stretching exercises. Consuming sports drinks immediately after the race is also beneficial. Additionally, utilizing tools like U-can energy products, Epsom salt baths, and Normatec compression systems can help expedite your recovery process. It's important to prioritize these recovery methods even if you don't feel like doing them since they make a significant difference in your overall recovery.

Remember that running a marathon puts your body under extreme demands. Taking proper care of yourself post-race is essential for optimal recovery. Don't forget to consume enough protein as well to support muscle repair and replenishment.
