How important is active recovery in your process?

Daniel, it was always critical for me. I can't begin to tell you how many times I was not able to swim down to have an active recovery after a race and how poorly I performed in the next race. You know, there wasn't always that capability swimming or we had a warm Pool. You know, sometimes we'd swim in an eight-lane 50-meter pool and that was it, that was all that was there. So there was no active recovery. And I can tell you the, when I was able to warm up and warm down properly in between races at a competition, it was really critical to my success. So we literally ended up, mapping out competition. We my coach would map pal competition specifically to make sure that we had me. It's that had warm up and warm down pools. So I think in order to flush that lactic acid out, I'm not a scientist. So I don't know. The, I don't know the ins and outs of the scientific reason, but I do know myself. And I do know my body and I know, do know. And once that lactic acid buildup on in me, I'm just staying. Personally, it was devastating and without doing something to flush it out. Your major trouble. So I would definitely recommend as much as possible. It's not always possible, but if find places in competitions, that do have that warm up and warm down, Pull, which in most cases today is true. You're not finding it that much. But active recovery is important. After recovery, is important in practice to after you've had a hard set making sure you recover, it's not just, it's not just, not just competition.

Active recovery is huge. I think I realized that more when I got older when my body just was not recovering as I wanted it to. But yeah, I stress it right now for a lot of the youngsters to not just sit it's not just going home and sitting down and taking a break. That's a part of it, but making sure that you're still eating, right? You're still getting the the amount of sleep, you're still stretching and working on those sore muscles. So when you come back, you're able to be effective. In your sports. So it's really stressing the right type of active recovery, and just seeing what you can do, there are times where you want to take a break from the pool, but you still need to do something whether it's biking or walking or doing something just to get the blood flow. But yeah, for me, it was trying to figure out what was the best sort. What was the best way to have a recovery and not fatigue the body, but still get the rest. So I can be effective for the next day and I think, for me, it turned Into a lot of coal tubs and then as I got older a lot of hot tubs and a lot of stretching and then just different ways that to help with the sore muscles to help me recover for the next day.

Very super important, everything and anything recovery. If you has recovery in the name, it's important. You should work at and you should pay attention in the, the actual workout. It's not when you get better, you get better when you're recovering.

Hi, Daniel, I've heard the term active recovery quite often and don't tend to believe in it too much. I think recovery the best. Recovery happens in sleeping because your cortisol levels, go down that stress hormone and your human growth hormone naturally increases. So sleep is a Surefire way to make sure that you're recovering well and anything active, should be taxing and Energy System, that's important. And so an easy run. Some may consider it a recovery run, is really an aerobic run and a chance to get your metabolism up to flush out some of the lactic acid and other things that build up in our muscles when we're working out hard. So everything has a purpose, but sleep is the ultimate recovery.

Daniel great question. So I believe if I understand what you're asking is what matters with recovery and so I would tell you to focus on the fundamentals of recovery and that is sleep, Stress Management nutrition and your training. Those things all effect, you know, you do get better when you recover okay in between your workouts. So I would concentrate Eight on those fundamentals. Most people are not getting enough sleep. Okay. And it is huge, not just the duration, but the quality of your sleep is a lot of studies on keeping your circadian rhythm. Keeping things in checking it affects all everything. Sleep, affects everything, it's probably more important than everything else combined. So super important Stress Management, how you deal with stress is huge. Okay? Wouldn't look like that and then nutrition energy in energy out your carb intake, okay? Your nutrients all those things affect recovery and your training, I think active recovery. You know, you do, you do need to run a lot in my opinion to recover from harder workouts, okay? They get dissolved and absorbed in that training so I would focus on the fundamentals first, okay? Before you worry about Anna and all those things. Those things are great. Okay? But they're the tip of the sword a little bit. Okay, we want to concentrate on sleep, Stress Management. Nutrition. And then the training, how it affects us, what we cover when we need in between. So I wish you. Well,

For me, it's super important as a full-time athlete. But a lot of time on your hands and I love doing get anything active recovery on days, and it's definitely programmed in, it might be as simple as taking the dogs for a walk or is structured, is a need to spin on the bike. But yeah, I think it's, I think it's super important. And yes, you might have a training program but actually, sometimes you may respond a little bit slower. So for example, I'm in altitude at the moment and I've had to put in far more active, recovery days and take outs of easy. Running days because the altitude because of training volume and training load, and sometimes you can't program for it. So I think just being super Dynamic with your training. Yeah, is really important. But yeah, I think active recovery is yeah, it's huge.
