I believe the best practice for teaching stroke technique is to start with good demonstrations and set a goal, then let the students try it out. Provide feedback and guidance as needed. Encourage trial and error and repetition to build muscle memory and reinforce technique. Transcript: "What do I believe are the best practices for teaching stroke technique? Well, I seldom teach a whole stroke as a one component. Usually, I teach parts of the stroke, like there are drills for body position, for the stroke, arm stroke. Sometimes, very specific drills for kicking, especially for breaststroke. And timing, if it's a breaststroke or timing arms, timing breathing, it depends very much. But I believe that as a session, good session for learning new stuff or defining new technique is to have a very, very good demonstration on hand. Have a go on trial and first, if ever possible. It always helps. And another good demonstration and then let the kids try out. It will work well."
Yes, hand and forearm size can impact swim speed but it is not the most important factor. Kiitos."
Do 10-15 seconds of a slow break, 25 meters all out, then rest and repeat 4 times for the last 15m of a 53m long course. Transcript: "Mitä seuraavaa on parantaa viimeiset 15 metriä 53 metriä pitkällä kohdalla? Mitä ajattelisin, olisi 50 metriä lähes 200 pisteellä, pieni pysäys noin 10-15 sekuntia ja 25 metriä koko kohdalla. 10 metriä jälkeen pysäytät, menet viimeiset 15 metriä koko kohdalla, ei pysäytä. Hyvä palautus ja tehdä se taas neljä kertaa keskustelussa. Se on jotain, joka voi toimia."
Israeli swimmers are mostly from immigrant families from the former Soviet Union, and they often need special protection and hospitality when competing and training abroad. Transcript: "What makes Israeli swimmers special? Well, nothing much actually. Most Israeli swimmers, they actually come from Russian background. They are coming from immigrant families from the former Soviet Union. This is like 70% of the best Israeli swimmers. Apart from that, I would say that maybe something very special to Israelis who emerge is that during competitions and training camps abroad, they usually need the protection for hostilities, which is special to Israelis only, I think. I don't know what else is so special. Thank you for question."
Don't rush anything, learn how to stuff works in your Club, ask questions, be cooperative with staff, and be there on time. Transcript: "What tips would you give to a new swim coach? Well, I've been educating new swim coaches for as long as I've been coaching. Maybe the most important thing for the new coach is not to rush anything. Learn how the stuff works in your club. Who does what, don't push anything. Learn, ask questions, be very, very, very cooperative with your staff and be there in time. That's my advice."
The most important quality for a successful swimming coach is loving what you do. Transcript: "What do you think is the most important quality for a successful swimming coach? The most important quality? There are many qualities that I can think of, but I think loving what you do is above anything else. Anything else can be learned and worked on, but you need to love what you are doing."
