What are your favorite dryland exercises for swimmers? I think the difficulty of that question is what event do they swim, where are they at in their career, what do they enjoy, what do they need to work on? I mean that's just a tough question to answer in a general way. But I would say anything that gets them moving. A happy swimmer is a fast swimmer so something that helps them bring joy to what they're doing and making sure that they're always consistently getting better with what it is that they're working on. I've got one of the most elite back strokers in the world, would you have anything to add? I thought you were going to tell me some of your favorite exercises and I was going to perform it right now. My favorite dryland exercises for swimmers? Well, it's a tough question to answer because it depends on various factors such as the swimmer's event, career stage, preferences, and areas of improvement. However, I believe that any exercise that gets swimmers moving and brings them joy is beneficial. A happy swimmer tends to be a fast swimmer. Consistently working on improving their skills is also important.

How do you become a certified strength and conditioning specialist? When, if you're asking this question, that means, you're on the right path, right? You're asking, how do I basically have the proper certification and practice, strength and conditioning, to get your cscs? You need to go through the nsca and it's basically a test that you can take at a testing center, and then there's a practical part of the test. There's also the cscc a that is oftentimes recognized within the professional Collegiate and tactical setting as well to take that test. You have to sit for a written. Test. And then there's actually a practical with Master strength coaches, and to even be eligible for you have to do a certain amount of hours under a master strength coach, whichever path you take, please feel free to reach out. I think the biggest thing is making sure that you're putting in education and taking the time to do things the right way. So that when you are practicing, you have a base level foundational knowledge, right? But any certification is just the basis of the pyramid. It is not necessarily the top and so, just remember that. That is just getting you in. The door and making sure that you are at a basic level. But at the same time, you never. Stop learning. Never look to keep Adams what you've been doing. Unlocking Athlete Potential: The Power of Studying Different Sports

So, I mean, the question is, do you study how athletes from other sports train for new ideas, and philosophies? And I think the obvious answer is yes. I mean, I think you're always looking across the various sports that are out there not only what they're doing from a physical, but psychological and how it connects, obviously, I think the shoulder to hip connections important in rotational Sports and so whether it's golf swimming. Baseball softball, tennis, right? There's something to be talked about. From a posture standpoint using, you know, my right side. While my left side is doing something opposite necessarily how the posture stays in a line. And then more importantly, how coaches get messaging across right and build that buying and that connection with their athletes. I think that that's absolutely huge to be looking into. And so, I mean, you're always looking for anything that can help you take your athletes to just a little bit of another level. And often times that can be found outside the box, right? I think the The old adage is, if you're the smartest person in the room, you need to find a new room. And so sometimes, when were working with our various athletes, in a specific sport, we can get stuck on having done something the same way for a long time. Without really having asked ourselves, is that really having the benefit? We thought it should. And so a great question and if you've got any ideas from some of the sports, you've seen, please share send them my way.

The role of emotions in strength training & coaching: insights from an expert

So the question is, what role do emotions? Play in strength, training and coaching? It's a great question. I think one of the things that often is in, discusses depends on the age that you're working with. When you talk about emotional control and what the role of motions play. But I would tell you that having worked last 15 years in the Collegiate setting with 18 to 22 year olds and you know, a number of professional athletes beyond that. I think that the role of emotions play is based on Not just a sport, they play or what they do within their sport, but how they view training themselves? You know, I think every individual has a different way that they go about it. Some see it as an ends to a me and into some, it's their playground. So those Elite athletes to see it as their playground. It's a place where they're going to emotionally, have fun and find joy, and be curious to those who see it as a means to the ends. What I mean by that is a means it's going to help them. Reach Elite level at their sport but they don't necessarily enjoy it right? For those athletes. I think, Aspect of making sure that you are taking time to see what is important to make sure that their tank is full. But I'm going to tell you right now, you come into any place that I'm at. I think energy is highly important, right? You gotta have the juice if your juice floor useful, if your juiceless use this, right? And that's where the energy comes from. And that's when you talk about that emotional aspect, and then you can't be afraid to go to the dark side as well, right? Go into a place of pain to know that it's gonna help pay dividends down the road. I think that just kind of having an idea and understanding that, although there is an extreme amount of science to it. There's Cartwright. And so you need to make sure that you're ready to not only own that art. But as a coach, especially from a strength training perspective and race, the art of it. And so hopefully this helps answer that question. I know for me that my emotions changed when I'm training, sometimes I'm in a great mood, sometimes I'm in a mood where I know, I just need to get it done. And sometimes I feel better for having done it, but I wasn't emotionally where I need to be at the start, have a hope this helps. Peace.

Personally, my emotions can vary during training sessions. Sometimes I'm in a great mood, other times I just need to get it done. Regardless, I often feel better after completing a session, even if I wasn't emotionally where I needed to be at the start.

Associate Director of Olympic Sports Performance Greg Adamson marks 10 years at Tennessee in the 2021-22 academic year. He works closely with the swimming & diving and men's golf programs, helping the Lady Vols swimming and diving team win its first-ever SEC championship in 2020. The men's golf program has seen a resurgence with Adamson, qualifying for NCAA Championships in 2021 and finishing the season ranked No. 22 in the Golfstat team rankings. Adamson has also overseen performance training for the soccer and rowing teams, and worked with Catapult and heart rate tracking for the football program. He has worked with over 1,000 athletes across 23 sports, including Olympians and world-record holders. He holds a bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science and a master's in Sport Administration. He previously coached football and baseball at Rock Hill High School in South Carolina.
