My favorite thing about working with ON is how much the brand values people and forming personal relationships. I chose ON because I felt valued outside of my athletic achievements and appreciated as a person. ON's focus on building personal relationships is what makes them unique. Transcript: "I really got the cool girl look with my sunglasses. My favorite part about working with ON, first of all, I love this question, and there are so many things that I could say because there's so many reasons I love ON and running for them. Aside from the amazing gear, shoes, spikes, flats, all of that, my favorite thing about ON is for sure just how much the brand values people and personal relationships. That is why I chose ON in the first place. Out of all my options, I just felt like the people at ON that I talked to just really cared about getting to know me as a person and cared about more than just me as an athlete, although obviously my athletic achievements and accomplishments and performance is very important for what I do, I felt valued outside of that as well. The whole person is what they wanted and I really found that special. I have a lot of friends that are in this industry and that just seemed like something that was really unique was the value that ON places on forming personal relationships."
No, running does not run in my family. My family is more focused on basketball, but I decided to pursue running and they have been supportive of me. Transcript: "Does running run in my family? No, actually it really does not at all. I come from a basketball family, funny enough. My dad was a college basketball coach for most of my life, and I have two brothers, one older, one younger, and my younger brother is currently a senior playing college basketball, and my older brother graduated in 2012 and also played college basketball. I played myself until going to college, and I just decided I was more passionate about running and saw more of a future doing that. I love basketball a lot. I love to watch it, and it's probably my favorite sport outside of running, but no, yeah, I'm the first runner in my family, and I think it's been really cool for them to come watch, and I think just like our basketball backgrounds make us super competitive, so they get really into it when they're watching me race."
No, I never went to any summer running camps in high school. Transcript: "Okay, I just got back from a workout and I'm eating my post-workout meal and thought I would answer some questions. So to answer this question, did I go to any summer run camps in high school? The answer is no. I never did any running camps in high school. I did some growing up like when I was younger, maybe elementary school. Yeah, but never high school. My high school team starting in July of every summer would have these optional meet times on like twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings. And yeah, again completely optional, but yeah we would just meet up for some runs, do a few miles, but yeah never any running camps. Although I will say I had a lot of friends that did summer run camps and you know seeing their photos and hearing their stories. They would make all these friends from around the country, so I was always really jealous of them."
Caffeine on race day can be important to the individual and can have a positive impact on their energy and mood. Transcript: "How important is caffeine on race day? I figured this one is fitting as I'm drinking some coffee before I go double. I think caffeine is such an individual thing. I personally think it's very important on race day, especially when you have a super early morning race and you need some type of way to wake you up, some energy, or also like total opposite if you have a really late race and you're used to going to bed around the time that you're racing. Like sometimes they run races at 10 o'clock at night. So I would say it's all up to the person, but for me, it is very important. And it's not necessarily that I think it's gonna make me run faster or give me some type of boost like physically, but I think mentally and just like with my positive energy, I think caffeine or coffee puts me in a good mood. So therefore I think I'm going to perform better because of that positive impact it has on my energy and my mood."
I'm Hannah Steelman, a professional track and field athlete and distance runner. I just graduated from NC State University in June of 2022 and am now running professionally. I live and train in Flagstaff Arizona full-time. Transcript: "Totally. My name is Hannah Steelman. I am a professional track and field athlete and distance runner for ON. I graduated from NC State University and just finished up my eligibility there in June of 2022. I was an 11 time NCAA All-American on the track and in cross country, which means, yeah, just graduated. So I'm a rookie. This is my first year running professionally, but I've been running competitively for as long as I can remember. And, yeah, I have a lot that I would love to share as far as advice goes or answer any questions. Yeah, I live and train in Flagstaff, Arizona, full time. Just moved out there about six months ago. And, yeah, I'm loving it so far."
My favorite thing about NC State is the culture and the close-knit community I formed there with coaches, teammates, and staff. Transcript: "Flyaways are crazy after that run. But my favorite thing about NC State, oh gosh there's so many, but I like when I was when I put my name into the transfer portal because I transferred from Wofford College to NC State, the main thing that I was looking for was to be surrounded by people that would push me every day, people that were better than me, but also like a healthy culture and that's exactly what I found at NC State. So I'd have to say that that was my favorite thing. Also the coaching staff and just like everyone on staff, the organization as a whole. It's just everyone really like has each other's backs and are super supportive of one another and it was just like a such a close-knit group and I really loved that bond that we formed there."
