What's the story behind you designing the Olympic women's track uniform for Guinea in 2008?

Designing 2008 Olympic uniforms: A forgotten creation unveiled on the world stage

Okay, so the store behind me designing the uniforms for guinea in the 2008 Olympics. I had a training partner for model for whanau who train with me when I was training here at Georgia Tech and at the time I had already established My Apparel company at the time, it was called track star apparel. And I'll talk to her about the possibility of outfitting, their country for the 2008 games, they didn't have a lot of athletes. And so So it wouldn't have been a problem for me to get those pieces done for them. And so we talked and she's talked with her delegation her in GB and they agreed to make it happen. So, I went into the lab and came up with a design that I thought was sleek and that I thought met, you know, with the times of 2008 and they love them. And so funny thing is I had actually done that. Uniforms sent them off to him and forgot that I had designed them until I saw her at the line, getting ready for the 100-meter hurdles and just out of the blue eyes. I do look, that's my uniform I did. And so anyway that was that so it was really cool to have that and I do look to come back with my apparel again, I started outfitting other sports as well and so just be on the lookout for something in the near future.

I designed the uniforms for Guinea in the 2008 Olympics. My apparel company, Track Star Apparel, was chosen to outfit them. I created a sleek design that was in line with the times and sent it off. I forgot about it until I saw my uniform on one of the athletes. I'm planning on outfitting other sports in the near future.

We discussed the possibility of outfitting Guinea's athletes for the 2008 games since they didn't have many athletes. It was easy for me to create the uniforms for them.

I went into the lab and designed sleek uniforms that I felt were in line with the trends of 2008. They loved the designs, and I sent the uniforms to them. I actually forgot about it until I saw my training partner at the starting line for the 100-meter hurdles. I realized, Hey, that's the uniform I designed!

It was a cool experience, and it inspired me to continue with my apparel company. I started outfitting athletes in other sports as well. Keep an eye out for what I have in store for the future.

How did I prepare differently between the 2000 Olympics and the 2004 Olympics? In 2000, I was still in college at the University of South Carolina. I was a junior at the time, and I had a lot of races under my belt. I had a full indoor season and a full outdoor season. It seems like we ran every week from January to June. So I actually had to taper off a lot before the Olympic trials in 2000. In 2004, I had moved back home to Atlanta. I had been dealing with some injury issues, so it was kind of touch and go for the most part. I think around late May, early June, I started to feel a lot better going into the 2004 Olympic trials. And so they were different in that I did a lot of races in 2000. I didn't do quite as many in 2004, but the results were the same as I wound up getting a silver medal in both. So grateful for that. Seems like I came to the same destination, just using different routes.

For the 2000 Olympics, I had a full indoor and outdoor season and had to taper off in the lead up to the Olympic trials. For the 2004 Olympics, I was dealing with injury issues so I didn't do as many races but still managed to get a silver medal.

The main difference was the number of races I participated in. In 2000, I had a busy race schedule, while in 2004, I didn't do as many races. However, the outcome was the same, as I ended up winning a silver medal in both Olympics. I'm grateful for that achievement, and it's interesting to note that I reached the same destination using different approaches.

Terrence Trammell is a retired American track and field athlete. He was the silver medalist for the 110-meter hurdles at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, and a three-time silver medalist for the World Championships. He was born in Atlanta, GA and trained with his high school coach Napoleon Cobb. Trammell attended the University of South Carolina and was the 1999-2000 NCAA Champion Indoors and Outdoors. In 2008, he qualified for the Beijing Olympics but had to pull out of the competition after injuring his hamstring in the preliminary rounds. He retired in 2015 and was elected to the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2021. He currently coaches at Pace Academy in Atlanta.
