The Special Forces vs Infantry: Unveiling the Differences

The question is how does being in the Special Forces differ from being in the infantry? They're different, don't get me wrong, but here's what I say. There's nothing special about being in Special Forces. Being in Special Forces is about doing the fundamentals and the basics better to a higher standard with no compromise day in and day out. And then because you're in the Special Forces you get some better equipment, you get some better funding, you have a slightly different mission set. But the mission behind both of these organizations is to fight and win our nation's wars as the first line of battle. Okay that means that you're gonna be engaged with the enemy and you're gonna do that in slightly different ways. I fundamentally believe that being in the infantry and I spent three years in the infantry before I went into Special Forces. I spent a year in Iraq. I was in charge of a 41 person infantry platoon in 4th Infantry Division. Time of my life. The soldiers, the NCOs, the people I served with in that infantry unit made me a better Special Forces officer. They made me a better leader. They made me a better person. They taught me things that I would have never learned. It's an honor and a privilege to be in the infantry and to be in the Special Forces and you have to earn both of those things. They work together hand in hand and I believe that the infantry teaches you how to be a great soldier, a great leader that you can then take to become better in Special Forces. So I highly encourage everybody to get out there serving the infantry then make the shift if that's what you want to do. Good luck.

It's about excelling in the fundamentals and basic skills to a higher standard without compromise, day in and day out. Special Forces may have access to better equipment, funding, and have a different mission set compared to the infantry. However, both organizations share the mission of fighting and winning our nation's wars as the first line of battle. They engage with enemies in slightly different ways.

Personally, I spent three years in the infantry before joining Special Forces. I led a 41-person infantry platoon in Iraq as part of the 4th Infantry Division, and it was an incredible experience that shaped me as a Special Forces officer, leader, and person. The soldiers and NCOs I served with in the infantry unit made me better in every way. They taught me invaluable lessons that I wouldn't have learned otherwise. Being in both the infantry and Special Forces is an honor and privilege that must be earned.

In my opinion, the infantry teaches you how to be an exceptional soldier and leader, which you can then carry over to become even better in Special Forces. Green Beret Training: Pushing Physical and Mental Limits

The question is, when training to be a Green Beret, did you find it more physically or mentally challenging? Well, the whole purpose of training in selection and assessment is to test you mentally and physically and emotionally. So they'll give you all sorts of different tasks, right? The physical stuff, it'll be individual, it will be small groups, it will be big teams. They're gonna push you to your limit. You're gonna find that limit and you gotta be prepared for it. And then they're gonna find a way to push you past what you believe your physical limit is. But that's also gonna test you mentally because there's always gonna be a point at which you think, I can't go forward, I can't do more, this is all I have. But in order to actually achieve the task, gonna have to be tested mentally. Plus there's gonna be all these tests. They're gonna make sure you can work with each other. They're gonna make sure you have the cognitive ability. There's gonna be actual tests that actually give you a score and emotionally because you gotta keep it all together, demonstrate emotional strength, get along with everybody and give it your best. It's an awesome time.

Green Beret training is a challenge both mentally and physically. You will be pushed to your limits and tested on physical tasks, cognitive ability, and emotional strength.

When training to become a Green Beret, I found it both physically and mentally challenging. The purpose of selection and assessment is to test candidates in all aspects - mentally, physically, and emotionally. Various tasks are assigned, including individual, small group, and large team exercises that push you to your limits. The goal is to find your breaking point and then push you beyond it. This physical challenge also puts a significant mental strain on you, as there will come a point where you believe you can't go any further. However, to succeed in the tasks, you need to overcome these mental barriers. Additionally, there are tests to evaluate your ability to work with others and assess your cognitive skills. Emotional strength is essential too, as you must keep it together, get along with everyone, and give your best effort. Overall, the training experience is intense but rewarding.
