What impact, if any, do you anticipate the future developments in drone technology will have on air combat strategies? I don't know as far as air combat because I don't really have that knowledge, but they do currently use it a lot for ground strategies. That's a big kind of thing. You know, you have some units that will have like the small ones that they just simply throw up, and it's like a little airplane, and it flies around, and they can check things out, because it's very vital in ground strategies to see what the enemy's doing on the ground without giving away our position of where we're currently located at. Even the ones more like the commercial ones, like the Mavic type of drones are being utilized. So those ones get utilized to see what's happening in a certain area without actually having to go to that area. Even anti-drone, because that's also a big thing, because the enemy is also utilizing that drone technology as well, using the commercial drones to rig it up with explosives to try to blow people up. So we even have to utilize anti-drone things to do things like jamming the signal for a drone to be able to fly and make it crash before it even gets to us. So there's a lot of things that drones are being used for, both on the friendly and the enemy side.

Drones are being used for ground strategies, to check out enemy positions without giving away own positions. They can also be rigged up with explosives and are a threat. Anti-drone measures such as signal jamming are being taken to prevent them from reaching friendly forces.

However, currently, drones are extensively utilized in ground strategies. Units often deploy small drones that resemble airplanes to gather intelligence and monitor enemy activity without revealing their own position. Even commercial drones like the Mavic type are employed for surveillance purposes in certain areas, eliminating the need for physical presence. Anti-drone measures also play a significant role as the enemy may exploit drone technology by equipping commercial drones with explosives. Countermeasures such as jamming signals are employed to prevent enemy drones from reaching their target. Drones have diverse applications on both friendly and enemy sides in various contexts, including ground strategies and security concerns.

The Entertainment Value and Misconceptions of War Video Games

What's your opinion on war video games? So, I'm assuming you're talking about things like, you know, Call of Duty, Battlefield, all sorts of games that are kind of, you know, focused on that kind of thing to simulate battle, right? And in some cases, you know, it can be a good stress reliever, right? It's entertainment in the end. In the end, it's no different than watching an action movie. You know, you're getting all that kind of drama out of that from watching certain movies, you know, Zero Dark Thirty, Saving Private Ryan, all that kind of stuff. So, in the end, it's entertainment. I don't think that it's going to glorify things. I think if, you know, some people are always worried about, you know, oh, well, these types of games make violent people. I think that people are already violent from other issues or whatever, and then they play those games to act out the violence. But without the video game, they still would have been a violent individual. And then other people who are not in that kind of scenario, they probably just get the more entertainment value out of it. So, I enjoy those types of games. They're fun to do. They're entertaining.

War video games can be a great way to relieve stress and have entertainment. They don't necessarily glorify violence, as people that are violent would act out regardless of the existence of such games.

My opinion on war video games, like Call of Duty or Battlefield, is that they can serve as a form of entertainment and stress relief. They are no different from watching action movies that provide drama and excitement, such as Zero Dark Thirty or Saving Private Ryan. I don't believe these games glorify violence or make people inherently violent; rather, individuals who already have violent tendencies may use these games to act out their aggression. For others, it's simply a source of entertainment. Personally, I enjoy playing these games as they are fun and entertaining.

The Future of the Army: Advancements in Technology

How do you think the Army will change in the next decade? I think it'll probably just kind of be like the changes we've seen before in the past, which is a lot of times tech-related. We're always making advancements in using drones, better night vision, better weapon systems, all that kind of stuff, and I think that'll continue through the decades. It'll continue to just improve through technology and everything. I mean, right now we're already starting to see some of that stuff already kind of being tested out and tried out with their testing out an all-electric Bradley fighting vehicle, which is the vehicle that scouts use for reconnaissance and everything. And the advantages of having an all-electric reconnaissance vehicle is that it would be so quiet, very silent. They still have to work around the limitations of probably the range that you would get from electric vehicles currently, but that'll probably improve over the years and everything. But the idea of having a completely silent reconnaissance vehicle will probably be good, so a lot of technical stuff will probably be the kind of key focus in advancements.

We can expect improvements in areas such as drones, night vision capabilities, and weapon systems. Technology will continue to play a crucial role in enhancing military operations. As an example, there are already tests underway for an all-electric Bradley fighting vehicle, which is used for reconnaissance purposes. The advantages of such a vehicle would include its quiet operation due to being electrically powered. While current electric vehicles may have limitations in terms of range, it is likely that these limitations will be addressed and improved in the years to come. Ultimately, advancements in technology will be a key focus for the Army's development in the future.

Army's New Night Vision Goggles Enhance Depth Perception

What recent technological advancements the Army is using that you're excited about? There's a lot of cool things they're doing, you know, advancements to weapons, to vehicles and everything. One of the cooler ones I think I've seen is some other advancements they're doing with night vision. With the night vision goggles, they've got this cooler technology where it's able to detect people better and it kind of creates like an outline around them and other outlines around other objects to really kind of define things. One of the key things with night vision currently, with the more common type of versions of night vision goggles in the Army, is that it's really hard to tell depth and some of the other kind of things look kind of very flat. And I think that kind of adds a little bit of depth to things to make it a little easier, but also be able to identify objects a little bit better so that everything doesn't feel like it just kind of blends together in this green kind of wash. You can kind of see these outlines. So some of the advancements with, I think, the NVGs with the night vision goggles, those look pretty cool.
