Cat vomiting: When to worry about serious health issues

Why a miter cat? Be vomiting. Wow, this is a loaded question, so there's a lot of possibilities now in younger cats, have an emergency veterinarian. So I automatically think about different viruses they can pick up with they get into something and there's a foreign body or an obstruction in the intestines as cats get a little older. I start to think about things internally that can cause vomiting. So kidney disease is really common in cats, and you'll see it occur later in life. And when they were later stage kidney disease, they will be nauseous and they will be vomiting. Things like intestinal cancer can cause vomiting. The big thing to remember is it is not normal for your cat to throw up frequently. Even if they scarf their food down, they should scarf it down and barf it up right away. Should not be something that they eat and they throw up later on or that they're throwing a vials aisle. So I definitely recommend if your cat is vomiting frequently, you go have routine, blood work and a urinalysis done to check them out and like make sure your vet assesses them and there's nothing serious going on. Veterinary profession in need of change: More support, better pay, improved access to care

What is your opinion on the current state of the veterinary profession? And what changes do you think are necessary as a profession and a business? We are needed more than ever. There's a ton of pets and people are seeing their vets veterinarians are in high demand support staff, members are in high demand, which means that people are getting paid more than they were in the past, which is great. But it also causes some issues in general. We need to pay people more so that they can have a better standard of living and a income versus debt. Ratio that is improved. But that means that we have to figure out how to still have access to care for our clients and not charge too much. To be able to pay our team more. So essentially there's a lot of things that really conflict with each other right now in our profession, where we want to make one thing better, but that means we need to make some drastic changes on the other side. On top of that that are is way more awareness about mental health, seeing you set boundaries and have just a better work-life balance overall even though we know there's no balance to be had, so we Are talking about these things a lot more, which is great, but we need to have more action. And overall, we need to recognize that some of this starts from within our profession. And is not just due to our clients, making things harder on as we have, a lot of changes we need to make to, I think covid gave us a chance to reset it, showed how needed we are as a profession but we need to be willing to think differently, do differently, do better and move in a more positive direction as a whole

We need to pay staff more, focus on mental health and wellness, and be willing to think outside the box in order to benefit everyone in the veterinary profession.

In my opinion, the current state of the veterinary profession is one where we are needed more than ever. There is a high demand for veterinarians and support staff, resulting in increased pay, which is positive. However, this also presents challenges. We need to ensure that our team members have a better standard of living and an improved income-to-debt ratio. At the same time, we must find a balance between providing affordable care for our clients and being able to pay our team adequately.

It's crucial to recognize that some of the challenges we face originate within our profession and are not solely due to external factors. The COVID-19 pandemic has given us an opportunity to reset and highlighted the importance of our profession. Now, we need to embrace this chance for improvement and strive for positive change.

What nonsurgical treatment are affective for cruciate ligament sprain?

What non-surgical treatments are effective for cruciate, ligament sprain. So I'm a veterinarian. So we're talking about in pets and unfortunately it depends a little bit on the injury. So if the cruciate ligament tears versus its strained, it's a little different. So if it's strain then sometimes rest restriction anti-inflammatories. Maybe cold laser therapy, can be effective in reducing inflammation and helping the pet. If it's a complete tear, I'll be honest with you, I haven't seen Any effective treatments long-term that or non-surgical, usually it will continue to cause the pet problems and discomfort, some people will talk about braces for these guys is very difficult to fit a dog for a brace and not have secondary issues with the rubbing slipping or having problems. And so, for the most part, if it's a stream, there are things that you can do. But if it's a complete tear, I do think surgery is usually the most effective treatment and it's going to be the way that you end up going with your pet overall.

As a veterinarian, I can provide insights on non-surgical treatments for cruciate ligament sprains in pets. The effectiveness of these treatments depends on the nature of the injury. 

For ligament strains, rest, restriction of activity, and anti-inflammatories may be beneficial. Cold laser therapy can also help reduce inflammation and aid in the pet's recovery.

However, if the ligament is completely torn, non-surgical treatments have limited long-term effectiveness in my experience. Braces are sometimes discussed as an option, but fitting a dog with a brace can be challenging and may lead to issues such as rubbing, slipping, or discomfort.

In most cases, if there is a complete tear, surgery is usually the most effective treatment for addressing the problem and providing long-term relief and comfort for the pet.

When to Express Anal Glands: Key Signs and Symptoms

When should anal glands expressed, this is a great question and it's a really simple answer. They should only be expressed if the pet is having an issue now, by issue, I mean, they are scooting, they're crying or there's swelling or infection noted in the area. Usually, you can tell because under the rectum, it'll be a little swollen, really red painful or sometimes you'll get an abscess that will rupture a majority of dogs, though do not need their anal glands expressed regularly because they should do it on their own when they pass poop. The only ones that needed are ones that are uncomfortable. Durable because of their anal glands and you should be able to tell by the signs. I showed you at home.

Anal glands should only be expressed if the pet is having an issue now, such as scooting, crying, or swelling/infection in the area. Most dogs do not need to have them expressed regularly; they should be able to express them on their own when they pass poop.

You may notice swelling, redness, or pain under the rectum, or even an abscess that has ruptured. Most dogs do not require regular anal gland expression as they should naturally do it when they pass stool. Only those that are uncomfortable due to their anal glands should have them expressed. You can identify the need for expression by observing the signs I mentioned at home.
