I really love this question. How do you approach the challenge of authenticity in photography? It's an important topic for me and it's something that I talk a lot about on my podcast with other photographers from all over the world. And you know, I think it's a big problem in the creative arts, especially in photography these days. And I think it's driven by ego and people wanting to be recognized and wanting to climb the ladder of success and things like that. And I think what ends up happening is people start to represent themselves inauthentically and kind of they only show this fake personality online. They start creating work that's maybe not authentic to the subject or to themselves. In landscape photography, what we see happening a lot is people start adding in fake skies and compositing in different elements that didn't exist in the scene. Specifically because people want their photographs to be noticed and seen, not because they're trying to express themselves artistically. And I think that's a real struggle that people have with authenticity. So in my book, it's really, really important that we be honest with ourselves about what authenticity means for us. For me, authenticity means being myself, owning my mistakes, which I make a lot of all of the time. It also means owning up to things that maybe when you thought your opinion was the right opinion, maybe it wasn't. And it's okay to say you were wrong. That's being authentic. And most importantly, I think authenticity is just being honest and showing people that you're a real person that makes mistakes and that your work isn't perfect. That's why sometimes I like to release work that isn't perfect so that people can see I'm just a regular guy and sometimes I make okay photos. Hope that helps.

All right, Saul asked what are the best lenses for the Fujifilm X-T5 camera and while I personally don't shoot Fujifilm it is a great system. It is a APS-C crop sensor. A lot of people like Fujifilm cameras because of all of the dials on the top and it's very easy to learn how to make images with the Fujifilm camera. In terms of what lenses are best for the Fujifilm camera, I have a few that I would personally recommend. Fuji has a lot of really great lenses. In fact, I have a whole tool that you can use to kind of look to see which lenses make sense in terms of weight and filter sizes, things like that. I am a big fan of Fujifilm's prime lenses. They're really, really nice, especially like 16 millimeter prime lens. They have a really fantastic zoom lens that's the equivalent of like a 100 to 400. Mastering Post-Processing: Unleash the Creative Potential of Your Photos

So the question is, if you had to teach a course about a specific topic, what would it be? And I would say probably the number one topic that all photographers from every genre are really almost always looking for help in is post-processing. It's pretty easy to learn how to use a camera and learn the settings and things like that, but post-processing is where a lot of the creative side of photography comes in, and it's also probably the most technical side of photography. And it's also why people who sell Lightroom presets and programs like Luminar AI are so popular because they do all the heavy lifting for you, albeit at an expense of you actually being the person who controls the final results. As an artist myself, I personally want to have full control over the end results, and therefore I spend a lot of time learning how to edit my photographs. And it's taken me over a decade, and I'm still learning every day new tools, new techniques. So if I was to teach a course, it would be on how to post-process images in the way that I like to post-process images, and do it in an authentic way so that it comes across as the way that you like to edit photos, that people appreciate about your photos, because then it'll become much easier to sell. So the question is, what do you do when you're in a creative flatline or a lull and how do you feed your creative energy? It's a great question because this is inevitably going to happen to everyone who's in the creative arts no matter how good you are. And when I'm in a creative flatline, my favorite go-to is to just take a break. It's important to step away, you know, maybe focus on a different hobby or different activity for a little bit and come back to the thing that you want to focus on. Another really great way to kind of break yourself out of those creative ruts is to add some constraints into your creative process. So as a photographer, what that looks like for me is I might only bring one lens with me or I might force myself to shoot with just one prime lens, like a 45mm or 21mm lens and only that for like a whole trip, you know, or a day out. I might just take a walk with my camera gear and see what I can find or I might just force myself to make images of one subject for two hours. So it's all about like creating these limitations on yourself and it helps spark a lot of imagination and kind of rip you out of that creative rut. Another thing I like to do is I like to just look at other people's work. That helps me a lot is getting ideas from others and it can spark your imagination. Hope it helps.

I love this question. How do you honestly know when your work is getting good? You mean you don't listen to your family and your mom saying, Oh, your photographs are so beautiful. I'm just kidding. No, this is a really good question because I think it's important to think about that. And for me, what works really well for me, and it's taken a lot of time. First of all, you need to become really humble about your work and you need to become very thick skinned and seek out critique and feedback from people that you love and admire in photography. So for me personally, I have a set of friends that have been doing photography longer than me who have some incredible work. And when I'm not too sure about an image, I'll send it to them and ask them to tell me what they think about it. And they're brutally honest with me. So and when there's a good image, they definitely will go out of their way to say, Yeah, this is really great. And they don't pull any punches. So I think it's important to develop that network of people that you trust that are going to give you honest feedback.
