A positive dog body language is gonna, you feel it, like they're happy, they're joyful, they're panting, they have soft eyes versus hard eyes, and it's very visible. This is a very hard-eyed dog. This dog, at this point, closed mouth, hard eye, you can see that they're uncomfortable, versus this dog, who's relaxed, open mouth, panting, and relaxed. So it's really, really, really helpful to see those and know those differences. So open mouth, panting, soft eyes, every, you know, ear carriage in a comfortable way, those are really wonderful things to see in positive dog body language. Any clips for someone who has a two and a half year old coming over to visit for two to three weeks at a time and a reactive dog? So this can definitely be a challenge and I think I've got some ideas and solutions that hopefully will help. One, you could consider whether this is the right situation for your dog and would boarding your dog for that visiting period be the most helpful. So that's a possibility. If not, then I would look at management. I would look at double management gates, crates, separation, using X-pen, play yards, those kinds of things. Having as much of that available in practice ahead of time before your nephew arrives. And then I also like to think about the games in which we can include a two and a half year old. There are so many things that we could use with two and a half year olds and I use just like with dogs we use stationing. One of the things I do with two and a half year olds is I station them. I have them put their feet on either a square of carpet or on something so that we can say, all right, you've rolled up treats in a towel. Now we're going to put that towel down and we're going to come back to home base, which could be a carpet or someplace, and let the dog go sniff. While the dog is sniffing, we stay feet on home base. And so let them go do things like that. There's a lot of different games that we can do with two and a half. I actually really love that age. But it has to be parent guided, adult guided, and in between those short successful sessions we're having management and enrichment in those management options. And again, hiring a pet sitter to kind of fill in those spaces and times that you can't account for while you're enjoying your visit can be really helpful, too. So I hope that this helps. The question is, are dogs yawning a sign of stress? My dog seems to yawn excessively. So whenever I see a dog yawning, I always want to ask what just happened. If someone was petting them, so for example, you can see this dog is mid yawn. You can see whale eye up in the front where their eyes are right there. I can do this right there. But a big yawn. So something happened. The child is reaching over the dog's head. That might cause the dog stress. And so they're going to yawn and that can be an indication of stress. So my first thought for you is to say, hmm, I'm curious. What just happened that caused my dog a little bit of stress? And if it's not after just waking up or it's something else, then I would consider what just happened. Was it a loud noise? What was going on in the environment? Well, okay, so on many fronts it's very similar, but having raised four babies that are now adults and many, many, many puppies and a puppy now, I'm going to say that it's very similar. So when you have the early puppy, you are as attentive as you are with a newborn, but the stages go so much faster and the payoff comes much quicker. And they're less expensive long term, but in the end, you know, it's a lot of work up front, it's so worth it, and you see the results much faster. And I always think what we're going through today with the tough stuff will be so different next week, and that's usually the case with parenting too. But yeah, a puppy's easier, but still a lot of work, don't get me wrong. Absolutely 100% a ton of work.

So often turning away and me increasing my distance is what I would do, providing no threat, averting my eyes, getting smaller, and giving them the space, allowing them to use their body to move if I need them to move to another spot. I'm gonna give them space and an escape route so they can do that comfortably, but I'm not gonna crowd them or force them or push them because they're already indicating they're in distress and uncomfortable. And so we want to be very, very respectful and allow them to feel safe by giving an increased amount of space and an escape route and making ourselves smaller and making ourselves not confrontational to them. So averting our eyes and doing all those things. I hope.
