82-Year-Old Overcomes Neuropathy and Regains Mobility

Oh, do I have a favorite client story? You know, I have so many. I've seen so many miracles treating clients with persistent pain, but one that comes to mind is Rina, who was this strong older Russian woman who comes to my melt class and she said to me, somebody said you could fix my neuropathy. And I was like, well, I mean maybe we can help to mitigate some of the pain that you have. She came in with a walker and so, you know, she was a little reluctant with this frowning face and when I said we had to get down onto the ground, she says we're not getting down on the ground. I said, well, just sit in a chair and watch us and see if you understand it. About halfway through the class, she gets on to she kind of peels herself off the chair and gets onto the ground and starts melting with us. And at the end of the class, she gets up and kind of moves around and she looks at me and she says, I'll be back. And over the course of three months, she came to every single class I taught and she went from walking in with a walker to walking in with two canes, one cane, and then there was this one day where she walked in with that cane and when the class was done, she left the class and we all noticed that the cane was there and a bunch of us sat there waiting for her to come back. And when she came back into the class, she was like, I forgot my cane. And the entire class applauded her and she's been able to regain her life at 82 and she says that she walks 20 city blocks every day without a walker. So I think that's a pretty amazing success story for me.

Using a therapy gun or any tool actually can have some drawbacks. Two of which are, do you know what you're doing and why you're doing it, and how you're using the tool. So first of all, if let's say your hip is killing you, taking a jackhammer to your hip is kind of like a kid screaming out for your help, and you walking up to the kid and punching them in the face, right? We don't do that to a kid, right? What would you do? You'd get down at their level and you'd ask them what the problem was, and you'd gain an understanding of why they were screaming out for your help, rather than punching them in the face, right? So if you are using a therapy gun directly on areas where you have pain, you may also have inflammation. And using a therapy gun or some hard tool could actually increase inflammation and not in a positive way. So I always say go indirect before direct if you're using a therapy gun or any tool.

So a Lisfranc fracture is a fracture of the foot. It's where your metatarsals meet your toes on the top of your foot. It tends to happen to a lot of dancers. And is it serious? I mean any broken bone is serious so you're definitely gonna have to go see a doctor for that. Most likely they will cast you and the recovery time is like any broken bone in your body. You've got about four to six weeks in a cast and then you might want to learn how to melt your feet because the problem is as your foot is casting it causes a ton of dehydration in the connective tissue and it can weaken the musculature of your feet. So treating your feet by using these small soft balls in the first onsets of repair when when you're when the bone has healed really important and while you are recovering I would highly recommend that you use the melt soft roller and melt your calves and the back of your thighs to improve the fluid state of the entire connective tissue system so that it minimizes the recovery time when the cast comes off and even if you're not casted the non weight-bearing time just creates atrophy in the muscles.
