Information That We Collect
This section describes the different types of Personal Data we may obtain about you.
Information that You Provide Directly
- Sign Up Information: When you sign up to create an account, whether through the App or Site or elsewhere, we collect and retain certain information that you can be used to identify you (“Personal Data”), including, in the case of account creation: your name, email address, phone number, and account profile photo. If you create an account via Twitter, Facebook, Google Apple (or other similar sign on systems), we may also obtain from those providers, your email, full name, avatar or profile photo, and you username or handle from that platform. You may also choose to provide your city or location in your profile, though this is not required.
- Through Communicating with Us: You may provide information to us when you use the Services, including without limitation, when you contact us regarding questions you have about the company or Services, respond to surveys, or provide feedback about the Services. This information may include your name, email address, phone number, address, payment information, and other information that may relate to you or identify you. We also collect any information you provide to us when you write or call us with queries, feedback, requests for support, or for any other reason.
- Purchase and Payment Information: If you elect to make any purchases, such as a paid subscription to the Services, we will keep records of what you purchased or ordered, and will request that you provide financial information such as payment method or credit card information (or other third party payment options we may accept) so we can charge you for your purchase. We use a third-party payment processor to process payments (including initial and recurring payments) made directly to us (e.g. if you use a debit or credit card or similar method). In connection with the processing of such payments, we do not retain any personal data or any financial information such as credit card numbers. Rather, all such information is provided directly to our third-party processor, Stripe, whose use of your personal information is governed by its privacy policy, which may be viewed at https://stripe.com/us/privacy. We do not directly collect or store any payment card information entered through our Services, but we may receive information associated with your payment card information (e.g., your billing details). To learn more about payments, please see the Payment and Payment Services section of our Terms of Use.
- Through Social or Interactive Features: If you use any of our social or interactive features, such as messaging between Users, sending questions to other Users or Experts by text or audio or video, responding to questions from other Users by text or audio or video, using comment features, or sharing content or videos with others outside of the app through our content sharing features, we will collect the information that you submit in doing any of those actions. Some of our social and interactive features are public features, in that the content you submit or post (e.g. when you ask or answer a question) automatically becomes public, along with your name and username. Information that you provide through such public sharing or public posting features of the Services will be considered public and made public, except where contrary to applicable law. For clarity, one-to-one messages between Users are not made public.
- Contact Information of Others: The App allows Users to choose if they would like to share their contacts (or address book) with us, via the “contact permission” that iOS and Android provide. Users may still use the App and Services if the decline to share contacts. If you choose to allow that permission, we will collect and store the contact information on our servers, and we will use it to: help you find friends and other contacts in the App, help your friends and contacts find and connect with you in the App, recommend other people you may know or want to connect with, and facilitate you sharing referrals, offers, and other information about AnyQuestion with your contracts, via the App. If any of your contacts aren’t yet using AnyQuestion, we’ll manage the contact information for you in a way that ensures those non-user contacts cannot be identified. (We don’t store the actual contact information itself and only process it momentarily to create cryptographic hash values which enable us to more efficiently do the things described immediately above in this paragraph. Note that your contacts will be periodically synced from your device, so that they are up to date. You can turn off the contact permission at any time, and this will stop the process where your contacts are synced to our servers. This alone does not delete your contacts on our server. If you want us to delete the contact information that we have collected, you can write to us at privacy@anyquestion.com, and we’ll delete them in accordance with applicable law.
Information Collected Automatically
- Information Sent by Your Device: We collect certain information that your mobile device, laptop, or other hardware device sends when you use our Services, including but not limited to IP Address, user agent information, network and connectivity information, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, language preferences, user settings, software and operating system names and versions, hardware models, as well as other information about your use of our Services. You have choices related to whether you want to accept Cookies (see the Your Choices section below). Please note, however, that if you don’t accept Cookies, you may not be able to access all portions or features of the Services. Web beacons (also known as web bugs, pixel tags, or clear GIFs) are tiny graphics with a unique identifier that may be included on our Services for several purposes, including to deliver or communicate with cookies, to track and measure the performance of our Services, to monitor how many visitors view our Services, and to monitor the effectiveness of our advertising. Our use of Cookies falls into the following general categories:
- Necessary Cookies: We use this type of Cookie to run our site, and to identify and prevent security risks. - Advertising Cookies: We use this type of Cookie to deliver advertisements, to make them more relevant and meaningful to consumers, and to track the efficiency of our advertising campaigns, both on our services and on other sites or mobile apps. The Google, Facebook cookies are used for login purposes, but also - along with the Branch.io cookie - are examples of marketing cookies.
- Interaction Data: We also collect information relating to the actions that you perform while logged into your account, including but not limited to things you click on, content you interact with, how long you interact with certain content, and other similar types of interaction behaviors.
Information from Job Applicants: We may post job openings and opportunities on our Services. If you reply to one of these postings by submitting your application, CV and/or cover letter to us, we will collect and use your information to assess your qualifications. Privacy Notice for California Residents
If you’re a California resident, you have certain additional privacy rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”). Those rights are all discussed in this Privacy Notice for California Residents section of our broader Privacy Policy.
California Consumer Protection Act
Your Rights Under the California Consumer Protection Act
The following rights (in this section) are available to California residents.
- Right to request disclosure of information collected. You have the right to request details on the specific Personal Data we’ve collected about you during the past 12 months. We provide detailed information about the types of information we collect throughout this broader Privacy Policy, but you may also contact us directly to inquire about your Personal Data specifically, as described in this Privacy Notice for California Residents section.
- Right to request disclosure of information shared or sold. First, we do not sell your Personal Data (or “personal information,” as used in the CCPA) within the meaning of the CCPA. That said, we do share certain data about some of our Users with service providers. This sharing is outlined in this broader Privacy Policy, as well as below. And you do have the right under CCPA to contact us at any time, as described in the section below, to request this information from us.
- Right to opt out of selling of your Personal Data. As stated above, we do not sell your Personal Data, within the meaning of the CCPA. That said, in the event that we ever do choose to sell data to third parties, we will provide a method to allow our Users to opt out of that selling, in accordance with California law.
- Right to request deletion of data. You have the right to request deletion of your data, unless an exception applies. Examples of exceptions include when we need to keep data to meet legal obligations, detect fraud, investigate reports of abuse or other Terms of Use violations, or fix security issues. Additionally, an exception would apply if we would be unable to provide the services that you signed up for without the data, in which case, you are free to request account deletion and cease use of the services. See more about this throughout the broader Privacy Policy. Once we’ve verified your request, we’ll delete your Personal Data (unless an exception applies) and will direct our service providers to do the same.
- Timely response. You have the right to make two free requests in any 12-month period. We will respond to your request within 45 days, and in more difficult cases we may extend our response time by another 45 days.
- Non-discrimination. You are entitled to exercise the rights described above free from discrimination. We will not discriminate against you because you exercise your rights. For example, we will not deny you any goods or services, charge you a different price, or provide a different level or quality of goods or services just because you exercised your rights under the CCPA.
Contacting Us (CCPA Purpose)
To make any inquiries, request, or exercise any of your rights granted under California Consumer Protection Act, you can contact us by email at privacy@anyquestion.com, or by toll free call at 1-855-437-6992. Please state that you are a California resident in that communication. We may need to go through a few verification steps after you reach out, but we’ll help you through that.
