This is a perfectly timed question of figuring out what the critical steps for transitioning. And for me I'm getting towards the end of my career and making sure that you both have Financial you know Independence. But I think one of the bigger things for me is actually being able to have my own self identity outside of the fire service and find something that I'm going to be able to successfully do For the rest of my life. Because when we retire, we retire a little earlier, but it's for the meaning of your body is beating up, your mind is still adjusting to everything that you have. And so making sure that you don't just be stagnant at the end and have something that you're looking forward to every single day. I think that's a huge critical step when you're transitioning away from being a first responder and, and, and living that life, because you're going to have sleep, you're going to have kind of Of a normal schedule, you're going to be around. So making sure that you have the help that you need to deal with the demons that you have or deal with the physical ailments, but at the same point have something that you're going to be looking forward to every single day. Moving forward.

You know, this is a great question to mean critical steps for you to transition from a first responder field. You got to make sure your finances are in order, make sure that you can do it because sometimes you can, but you should be planning this at the very beginning of your career because we're all going to leave the first responder profession at some point, some with injury, God forbid somebody is something else. So you you need to have a back-up plan. So get your finances in order. Make those good Investments, talk to a financial advisor. Get that set and then it's what do you want to do so many times? I forgot I talked to First Responders and they feel like they're pigeon-holed into something. You know that. The only thing they can do is a first responder, you have so many skills, so many skill sets to bring to the table. So start planning. Now the bottom line is we're all living longer. So plan out what you want to do next, and bring yourself to the world because you have a lot to offer.

What are the critical steps for transitioning away from life as a first responder? That's a tough one because I am still deep into it, but as I start looking at it being just a few years from now, it's a good question. I think the greatest thing, the biggest thing that you need to consider in transitioning away is recognizing how much being a first responder is part of your life. Your friends often come from that career. You do a lot of extra work and overtime and volunteering. Your family is very first response centered. So recognizing that in yourself and recognizing that a big part of your life is going to change. It's not a small transition, it's a very big transition. The other thing to consider I think is what are you going to do? Really I mean it commands so much of your life that sitting on a dock and fishing all day is not going to be the way to go. Are you pursuing another career? Are you actually still having your hand in first response, but maybe just training other people in leadership or joining a local fire school or training school to help out there. I think understanding that you need to be doing something else and just not drop it cold turkey is important.

What are the critical steps for transitioning away from life as a first responder? I transitioned away from life as a first responder. I was a deputy sheriff and when I decided to leave in that moment, I truly did not know what to do with my life. I was not in law enforcement very long, but in that short amount of time, four and a half years, I had done a very good job of making my entire life one singular focus and that was law enforcement. So some critical steps for you if you're transitioning away from life as a law enforcement is, take a look back at or throughout your life, what are some aspects of your life that you haven't paid attention to that have nothing to do with law enforcement? What were some things that you did, I say law enforcement, I mean all first responders. What were some things that you did before you became a first responder that you don't do anymore? Was it a sport? Was it a church group? Was it a group of friends that you haven't seen in a long time? You change once you become a first responder, but so the things that you've seen or the things that have happened to you change how your mind works and what your memories are and what your emotions are. That's all the more reason why you need to expand yourself beyond just your job and take a look at what in life is there that you're not doing. That includes take time off, get away from the job before you leave the job because it helps you get clarity on who you are, what's important to you, and then you can define what direction you want to go. And that might change, that's okay too.

What are the most critical steps for transitioning away from the life as a first responder? Step number one is to have a plan. If you don't have a plan, then maybe you should seek out someone like myself that can help you with a plan for transitioning out of that life. It's a terrible mistake to just say, hey, I want to retire and not know what you're going to do for the rest of your life. If you have a purpose, then you need to use that purpose to help other people and put that purpose into action. If you don't have a purpose, if you're currently feeling unfulfilled, then you need to institute a plan of how you're going to find your purpose, use your purpose, and help other people. That is how you find fulfillment once you step away from the job. You need a plan. It needs to be written, and you need to know how you're going to execute on that plan. You need to know who's going to help you with it. What steps are you going to take first? First step is figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life. Second step is to write down that plan so that you know, okay, I have a written plan, and I know where I want to go with this. That's pretty much it. If you have a plan, and it's written, and you have some action steps that you can take, then the next thing is to just execute on that plan. And that's it. You're set after that.
