How do you handle the emotional toll of working with difficult cases? I was in Special Victims for two and a half years and the number one piece of advice that I say is you have to get yourself moving. When you're outside of the job, you have to spend time in the gym or Outdoors, breathing in fresh air, and relaxing and re-centering yourself. It's something that's so critically important for your own mental stability. Either you're working a difficult case or whether you're just in a stressful situation in general, you need to take care of the physical to take care of your mental and your emotional.

How do you handle the emotional toll of working on difficult cases? Well one of the first things that you need to do is you can't internalize everything. Whatever case you're working on, I always try to like at the end of the day wash it off, go home. You may continue to think about it but you can't let it consume you. You also need to ensure that you have people that you can talk to. You know early on in a lot of our careers we really didn't want to show any emotions when we were dealing with a tough case but it was you know it's very important nowadays and we wish you would have got that earlier on that talk with a colleague, talk with you know somebody that you work with, if you have peer support or a therapist. But the biggest thing is that I've seen is you don't try to internalize it. Basically you have to leave work at work and then when you come home you need to switch that off and focus on your family, focus on yourself. If you need to go for a run, make sure you maintain a healthy lifestyle both mentally and physically so that doesn't become all consuming. But these are just some things that you can do to make sure that you're taking care of your mental health.

It's a great question of a, how do you handle the emotional toll of working on difficult for me? It'd be a calls, but I think in the moment most of us do what we need to do and we're able to compartmentalize what we need to to be able to get through the call. And then after it's done, it really takes time throughout your career to understand what works best for you and it changes throughout the career and the beginning, I didn't say anything and and that was detrimental to me and I needed to figure out About what was, what would work best and throughout time at just transgress to, you know, if it's something that's really bad, I can call my support network or I can talk to my crew, my crew is really good about that and it's just opening up your mind to the different aspects of what you need because all of us have different needs after dealing with these emotional tolls and it's so important to figure out what works best for you.
