How can someone who is overweight or out of shape begin to safely work towards fitness goals?

When someone who is overweight and out of shape begins working towards fitness goals, the most important thing to do is to establish habits that will make them more fit. This includes exercising 3-4 times a week for at least 30 minutes, drinking half their body weight in ounces of water each day, eating healthier foods such as vegetables, and finding people to go on the journey with them.

Transcript: "Great question here. How can someone who is, you know, overweight, out of shape, how do they begin safely working towards fitness goals? The answer here, slowly. First things first. A lot of times, you have to look at what did you do to get out of shape and you think about those are really the steps that you need to take to get back in shape. So if you ate too much and weren't watching sugars and not eating enough vegetables and not hydrating, just start doing those things, you know, slowly but surely. But in the big picture of things, one of the first things you should do is work on establishing the habits that will make you more fit. So instead of thinking I want to lose 10 pounds, think about, all right, in order to lose 10 pounds, I need to consistently work out. So let's go back and go, hey, I need to work out three times this week for 30 minutes. So set that as your first goal. First month might be 12 workouts, 30 minutes, three times a week. And honestly, it doesn't matter what you do in them to a certain degree. But let's say you just, hey, I went for a walk, did some stretching, a couple of pushups. That's great. Once you establish that habit, then you can start fine tuning. Okay, now I'm going to start adding some resistance training. And now, you know, month two, I'm going to work on hydrating. By the way, that's the first thing and best thing to do for nutrition. Focus on hydrating. Try to get half your body weight in ounces of water. Now it sounds like a lot, but eventually you become, you know, a little bit better off better for hydrating. But first, start slow. Add each week or each month once you, you know, start to maintain that habit, add another new habit. And before you know it, you're three months into it, you're five pounds down, you're consistently working out, you're hydrating, you're eating more vegetables, and you're really starting to feel better. And then from there, everything just starts to snowball, right? Find some people along the way that also want to do the same thing and rely on each other to help change your fitness culture."
