What’s the hardest setback you’ve had to deal with?

The hardest setback that I've ever had is losing my dad. I lost my dad early early April in 2021 right before trying to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. And I mean my dad was such a such a part of my journey and Triathlon. He was the first person I ever did a triathlon with and he's been a part of that Journey, the whole way. So for me, losing my dad and just trying to regroup from that was was really really challenging especially in the List of qualifying for Tokyo, so that was that was really hard.

The hardest setback that I've had to deal with. I don't know anything. Okay, so how it is set back that I've had to deal with in my career, is probably not qualifying for the u.s. Olympic team. After years of Performing and consistency. I wasn't selected for the team and it was pretty heartbreaking. And right now I'm still trying to, you know, come back from it because it's still pretty fresh. Fresh mental wound, but Yeah, we'll see how I continue to progress and, you know, handle it in the future.

So I had a lot of setbacks in my career. But if I have to pick the hardest one, I would say it was actually this year 2021 coming back before the games prior to the games. That was that was a really like hot paid. For me with talented being sugar going to the Olympics. Even if she was like number one or number two in the world. And then I was training really hard. I knew I was really sweet. I could hang up with all the top guys on the ship. Good deal against Martin one real. I was swimming awesome. And I was really ready to give it a call out for Tokyo and four weeks. Before the games. I felt pain in my left calf, and I want to enter, I and they diagnose a kind of a big turn in the calf. So, yeah, I have to stop running for a couple weeks, then the rehab and everything. So I was basically about to run two weeks prior to the game, and that was a, that was a big setback. But yeah, you know, I had some before and I know They only make you stronger. So I just I just put my head down. Wait for the games to be to be done and gone and and then I was ready to fight again.

Um, I had a few setbacks during my career. The hardest one probably was at the very beginning when I wasn't allowed to raise you to a heart condition. And yeah, that question, my whole career was about not to compete at all. And that's was pretty tough. Especially, when you are 17, 18 years old, and you have your future ahead and it was very hard and more recently. I would say when I broke my elbow before the Olympics in Rio 2016, so it was really A leaf. It was a great cause for me and yeah, it was a pretty tough one as well. But you know, the sport you have good times and bad times.

The hottest set back I've ever had to deal with was racing in Leeds, in 2018, when I had a stomach problem and I was really unwell the race, but I didn't know that until about two kilometers on the run and I felt awful and I try to finish. And I've come finish and end up in any, but the 5K run around, my hometown in the city center. We're all the crowd cheering me, but knowing that my body wasn't right was probably the hardest moment of my career and it felt awful. I wanted that I wanted the road to swallow me up. I wanted it to stop but it just won't stop until finally, the doctor pulled me off the course and ended up on a drip.

When I started the sport and racing, the big guys, I liked of many things, but especially my swim was not at the level. It had to be. So I went through a period where I was exiting the water more than 90 seconds, behind the for the front and and with no chance to fight for the the races. So, That period was definitely hard and I for a while. I doubt it. If if that if Triathlon was my sword, you know, you know if I had a chance or a shot with with it. Luckily we push through that period. Go to be better and got myself a chance.
