What is your mindset when you've settled into the race, specifically during a mile run?

There's a lot of questions about the mindset of a race, and specifically this one on the mile. The mile is a challenge. I think there's four laps on the track, it's a little bit easier to engage where you are versus the road. But at the same time, that third lap, if you can be mentally in it, is important. Sometimes you go out too early, too fast that is, and then you struggle that third lap. And sometimes you are too conservative on the first two laps, and the third lap you feel great and you want to spend the whole 800 or save a little bit of energy for the last quarter mile. But most people make a lap to go, 400 meters to go, a big move, or sometimes they wait until the 300 or on the turn of the 200 meters to go. So your mindset has to be always ready for any move, especially in the mile. And as long as you pace yourself and finish strong, especially holding your posture and form very strong is important at the end. It's not the fastest that wins, but the most relaxed one.
