What is my favorite non-traditional pet to work with? This one's easy. It's also my favorite pet in general. I love turtles. I love the fact that being a veterinary ophthalmologist, so you are an expert with the eyes of animals of all species. And so I get to treat many types of animals. And I've been fortunate to work with a variety of animals, including not only dogs and cats, but I've been able to do surgery on a sea lion. I've been able to do surgery on a giraffe before, and I've done a lot of work with sea turtles when I used to live in Florida. And by far the most rewarding and just overall cool experience was doing work with the eyes of sea turtles in South Florida, where many of them had developed these growths or tumors on their eyes. And my job was to remove many of those. So that was probably the most unique and most rewarding work I had done. So definitely turtles.

What is my favorite non-traditional pet to work with? Ferrets. Ferrets and snakes. They're two animals that I just absolutely love, but they're not the right pet for me. So I love seeing them at work. Also, ferrets and snakes are really decently easy to treat in veterinary medicine. I can often get really good results when pet owners bring them in when they're pretty ill. So we... they're rewarding.

so my favorite non-traditional pet to work with is a tough one really because I love all animals and I've got quite a range myself. Hedgehogs are super fun to work with but they can of course be hard to cuddle they're not a cuddly pet so to speak and tarantulas they're super fun as well but obviously they're not cuddly and then reptiles as well. All animals are super interesting to work with. Rabbits are very interactive and they're quite fun because there's quite a lot going on with rabbit behavior as well and rabbits are also one of the most misunderstood animals that we seem to have domestically and people don't tend to meet all of their needs so they can be a very fun pet to work with just to inform people and educate them and obviously the behaviors that rabbits express and they have such a multiple range of needs as well so it's definitely an interesting animal to work with and if it's something that you're interested in as well and you want an animal that's going to be as challenging as dogs and rabbits are definitely the way to go especially in the UK we have a massive problem with people buying rabbits and then keeping them in inappropriate housing or not meeting their nutritional needs and also not identifying behaviors as well so unfortunately charities such as the RSPCA and other rescue organizations become overrun with rabbits because people haven't been able to meet their needs or take care of them properly and rabbits also end up in a neglected state quite a lot of times as well but rabbits are super fun to work with and they are such little characters and they have a lot of needs so I definitely think rabbits are a super non-traditional pet to work with.
