What are your opinions on “knees over toes” guy?

I love this question. I was, I'm from a time when knees over toe was like the worst thing you could possibly do, knees over toes. Knees have to go over toes. Knees should go over the toes. They should go to the big toe. They should go up a little toe and they should have the ability the mobility and the strength to be able to handle that in a really healthy way. The best way that I heard that the first time I heard that was from dr. Mike Clark, from the nasm and he said you know what, we're going to kind of break some rules and this knees over. Her toes is kind of going out the window because when you think about what it takes to even, just pick up a package off of the the front porch when Amazon, or at the time, maybe UPS is delivering a package. The knees are definitely going to go over the toes. When we want to put on external load and start to add more intensity. We want to make sure and be careful with the athletes to make sure that they can actually in fact control that motion. So we never compromise the knee. So I think when adding Load and going heavier or adding intensity. Those kinds of rules become way more relevant to maintain the health of the athlete. So, knees, over toes. Absolutely in an unloaded movement based environment. But when we start adding external load, I think it's really important to just be careful and be cautious and make great decisions based on that that athletes skill and strength.

Hi everyone. What do I think about the news? Over tow guy, awesome, guy. I wish I'd get a chance to meet him someday because I love his energy and I love all that real cool. Things he's doing and helping move the fitness industry Beyond this myth, that uni can't go past your toe. However, there is one thing that I would like him to address on time and I might have just missed it and I'm sorry knees over Tokai, if you did say this and I missed it but it's the relationship of the pelvis to the knee relative to the toe. That is really important. So way back when Back when I was going to school, that was a predominant thing. Is that the knees should not go back past the toll when we're squatting. And I can't even really demonstrated all that well, because I'm a need past the toe kind of guy. But here's what we need to think about is the relationship of the pelvic tilt relative to the knee and the ankle. That's really important. So long time ago in physical therapy, we used to think of trying to stay really neutral here. And we would say that if we bring our knee past your toe, with a pelvis, in this position, that could create a lot of Shear forces in through the patellar tendon. Eden and the ACL true story. But if I drive my hips back at the same time that I am bringing my knees forward, then I have all the safety in the world because I'm sharing that responsibility through lots of different joints. So not only the hip joint but the knee joint in the foot and the ankle joint. So think about it. When we do some of our drills is what is the position of your pelvis relative to the knee and the ankle when you're learning how to squat or other exercises that really demand, that need to go past the toe,

This question much like a lot of other questions are always going to start with it depends, really depends on your client, depends on who you're working with and what they're walking into into the situation. With a lot of this is going to depend on where they are and where the knee is that being said, with a lot of our athletes knees over toes is obviously something that we are going to want to make sure that we're controlling. But that we're loading because in sport and majority of sports knees are going to go The toes. So it is a pattern that we will definitely consider loading. We just have to do it, systematically and progressively, and mindfully, and not just blindly, and not all the time. There's plenty of ways around that whether it be box squatting or bunch of other, you know, variations of squatting or split squatting. We're, we're we're kind of keeping the knee back. I know in the past, you know, certainly, knees over toes was faux pas. I was heaven forbid, your knees Cross Your Toes. Now I think the majority of training programs especially for athletes, these are crossing the toes because the athletes knees are crossing the toes pretty frequently. We want to make sure that they're strong and stable when they have to produce Force out of that position. As far as the knees over toe guy, I think he's kind of, obviously, you know, telling you that. This is something that needs to be part of programming and you should probably be putting it in for your athletes. At the very least, if not just your general population clients because a lot of them are going to have to do a lot of things with their knees traveling over their toes. And again it just has to be done mindfully.

What are my thoughts on these overtones guy? Honestly, I think he's great. He's done a great job. Marketing look, he has a story to tell. He had several injuries a long time ago and he built himself up to be in a strong fit. You know, and jumping and jumping really well. Now, and, you know, he's a story that a lot of us can relate to a lot of people around the world can relate to, and want to be. And so, in that aspect, you know, it's a great success. He's sharing some some good information to get people talking thinking, learning challenging each other. But you know, to be honest, with you years ago I remember it was it was a big No-No to have you know, considered to have your knee, go over your toe in a certain movements of particular lunge, you know, squatting that sort of thing. It was it was considered a bad deal. But much of our everyday lives are spent and movement, you know, knees over toes. I mean, just going down the steps as pretty difficult to not have news over toes. Going down your steps, you know. So overall, I think he's been great, you know, like I said, just getting the discussion going, Owen, and and people thinking and talking what a funny story for me is, you know, I know he's really reached out, you know, pretty to a pretty wide spectrum. I had a 50 plus year old Hooper, you know who just wants to stay fit and strong and healthy. You know, telling me he was doing the news over toes program, you know, which is, which is pretty cool. So but you know, like anything else, you have to, you have to work your way into a program into a system. You know, you don't want to dive headfirst and just pick the, the first sexy, Exercise you see off Instagram and then make judgment off that and you know he he's done a good job creating a system and standards and progressions and regressions. So I think there's a lot of positive in the knees over toes guy and the approach he has

What's your opinion on the knees over toes guy? I like him. His social media can come off being extreme because the movements he does is impressive, but they're extreme, they're catching your attention. However, the narrative that he's pushing is not extreme. You know, he talks about a lot of like eccentric knee flexion work and things like that. He's really big on the sled. And it's all about, you know, a very standard linear progression of, you know, increasing resistance to make your knees stronger. And he's doing a lot through a lot of quad strength and a lot of hip flexor mobility. So it's nothing crazy. You know, he preaches it, I believe him. I think he lives his life with a lot of conviction. He's not trying to sell things as much as he is, he's trying to just, you know, spread his narrative, which is not crazy. He's just catching people's attention with some extreme movements. So I'm all for it. And in general, the knees over toes, don't push your knees over your toes narrative is, you know, it's being, it's outdated at this point, you know, and it's okay to do it. It's just understanding what your body's capable of doing first and making sure that you're not putting it in any type of compromise spot or vulnerability.

So a lot of my athletes have mentioned him before or at least have hopped on some of his programs because jumpers knee is incredibly common in basketball athletes because all the jumping and running and decelerating, the only thing is, I don't think his stuff is wrong and I do like some of these exercises and I do use some of them and I know other trainers. Use a lot of them and they can help their step. But I don't know if it's the only way to fix or improve XY and I don't know if doing these exercises or going knees over toes is going to bully prevent and then also it's he promotes the way like that you can dunk and you'll be able to dunk higher and stuff but there's like a lot of different methods and a lot of different qualities that you need to build to be able to do those things. And then it's also finding the root cause of like jumpers knee or knee pain. So, it may not be the best method for you. So it's Kind of understanding like yeah I think it's okay to try it and figuring it out. If works for you obviously he's had a lot of success. Like I said I don't think any of this stuff is wrong but not to only look at this is the only way and being open to other ways of improving or fixing x, y, and z.
