How can I tell if my dog is starting to lose his vision? So vision loss in dogs, especially as they get older, is common just like it is in people. Now one of the most early signs that you'll see is kind of a blue haze to the eye and a lot of people think that's cataracts when in fact it's something called nuclear sclerosis or lenticular sclerosis, which is a hardening of the lens in the eye and it's a very common normal age related change. People often see that your dog might not be able to navigate as efficiently at night in low light conditions and so you'll want to leave things like night lights on for them. Dogs can also get cataracts and so if you are concerned about that, you want to take them to the vet so they can actually evaluate for a cataract and there are surgeries, just like in people, where cataracts can be corrected.
