Can you explain the role of a doula? Yeah, so a doula is a trained professional who provides support, advocacy, and education throughout the entire perinatal period. So a birth and labor doula is really going to be with the new parents, especially the new mom during the prenatal period, but especially during birth and labor. So their role really is to support the mom, to ask any questions or to answer any questions that the mom or parents may have. A doula will also go through a birth plan. And this is where they go in depth with the pros and cons of any intervention that may or may not be used during the labor and birth process. The most important part of a doula is the listening piece as well, and advocacy piece. So whatever happens, the birth doula is making sure that the mom is getting respected during the labor and birth process as well. A labor and birth doula will also make partner look like an absolute rock star and thinking ahead of certain things that may happen after birth. A labor and birth doula may also provide some care postpartum-wise and provide some lactation support as well. A postpartum doula is a little bit different, where this doula is with the mom or parents after birth. So this might look like light chores, making sure the breastfeeding journey is going really well, making sure that the mom is getting her needs met and that the partner or parent, other parents are getting their needs met. So the real piece of the role of a doula is advocacy, support, and education throughout the entire perinatal period.
