Can my dog's fur irritate his eyes? Yeah, that can happen. We will see dogs with very long fur that sometimes can get in their eyes and cause a physical abrasion by rubbing on the corneas. So that is possible. Also dogs with very long hair below their eyes can also accumulate a lot of gunk or debris from the eyes and that can lead to an environment that breeds a lot of bacteria or yeast in that area and sometimes you can see infections in that skin around the eyes as well. So it's always a good idea to try to keep the hair around the eyes trimmed short, not only so that they can see well, but we avoid any sort of irritation, we avoid any buildup of any gunk or discharge around the eyes. Even if some eye issue were to develop, you can see their eyes very clearly to recognize this issue and get it treated sooner than later.
