How do you stop on rollerskis?

Roller skis don't have brakes, so the best way to stop is by stepping or snow plowing. However, it's important to know the terrain and hills you are skating on, so that you can safely come to a stop.

Transcript: "Yeah. So roller skis don't have brakes which is the one huge drawback to them. So the big thing is you can kind of Step so you can stop with one leg as your skis go in and the stuff with the other legs. You're kind of doing this weird little chicken waffle side to side that kind of slow you down. You can also try to snow plow which is where you put your skis in words like the letter a and you really push hard against the outside of the ski that will slow you down. But if Going down a really fast. He'll you won't be able to stop at that rate of speed. So it is best to know where your roller skating and make sure that you're familiar with the hills and the terrain. And that you can roll to a stop that you're not going down a really Steep Hill into a stop sign. For example."

How do you stop on roller skis? This is a great question and there are a lot of different types of rollers. He's out there and some have brakes. And so if you're a beginner on roller skis, I would definitely highly recommend getting a pair that has brakes on them. We usually trained on roller skis that didn't have brakes and so there was no obvious stopping mechanism. And so I would say the most important thing for us was really scouting Our Roots before we went on them and our coaches would usually go out and make sure every Hill ran out. There was a flatter and Uphill after the downhill, and you wouldn't get going too fast because we didn't have brakes to stop ourselves. There are also some pretty funny techniques. You can do like a kind of a makeshift snow plow and roller skis. So there are ways to dragging your poles. There ways to slow yourselves down but yeah, most rulers, he's we use, did not have A braking system.

Hey, Brett, thanks for the question. How do you stop on roller skis? Well, a couple ways. One thing, we never ski roads without scouting the roads. And so, if we are going down a hill, we are going down a hill that we don't barring unforeseen circumstances actually need to stop. There will be a run out or that fast downhill, which can be in excess of 40 or 50 miles an hour. The fastest slopes will run out into something that will slow us down naturally. However the most dramatic way of stopping on roller skis is to dive or slide safely off the road. If you need to avoid something like a car, or a blog or some sort of obstacle, that absolutely must not be hit. And so at all costs, we will avoid collisions with cars and that's sort of your last-ditch opportunity to save yourself smaller, ways of stopping. Our to put your skis in a V where the point of the V faces forward like an error Arrow just as a snow plow would and on cross-country skis and you apply light pressure out with your glutes, push out with your ankles, push out with your knees and the rubber on the wheels will actually slide in micro and very sort of subtle ways and slow you down. Thanks for the question. Be careful out there.

How do you stop on roller? Skis years? Not like literal breaks but you can kind of snow plow and push on the outside of the rubber which just sort of uses that friction to slow down. Or if there's a nice grass section alongside the road, you can just ditch into that and that'll slow you down pretty well. But the big answer is you got to be careful about which downhills you go on to so know about them, for scope them on a bike or go with someone who's done. It before. Yeah, we get this question a lot. We're out on the roads roller skis are not the most normal thing for everyone, but once you figure them out there, they're a good thought.
