I have unique experience and expertise in coaching effective and efficient movement techniques, with a particular focus on helping athletes with disabilities make the most out of their climbing. So I was lucky enough to coach the GB power climbing team for over four years and I still work with athletes with various disabilities. This put me in a particularly amazing position to kind of have to learn how to analyse efficiency to the nth degree. How can I get the absolute most out of this individual and really celebrate their ability and what they do have. It's definitely informed the way that I coach movement now and I think it's perhaps why I love teaching efficient movement techniques and hopefully have an eye for helping people make the most out of their climbing and really use their body as effectively and efficiently as possible."
To build strength and better technique, focus on lifting through the hips and engaging your glutes, climbing tall with a "giraffe neck", training lock offs, having strong fingers, and being confident to move dynamically. The most significant decision I've made in my life so far was to leave my own climbing wall and pursue a career as a freelance coach. This gave me the freedom to travel and share my coaching with people in lots of different places, and has ultimately been the best decision for my happiness and career. Transcript: "What is the most significant decision you've made in your life so far? I mean this is a huge question. A few different things that I could touch on here but I guess in relation to its applicability to this platform. My setting up of my own climbing wall and interestingly more significant was actually my leaving of my own climbing wall. Luckily I set it up with a business partner who wanted to have complete control of it and was happy to take over. So I could leave and pursue my true kind of happiness and purpose that gave me freedom that I hadn't realised I needed until I left. Being a freelance coach that I was doing before, running my own business, Bee Climbing and coaching all over the world. I stopped that in order to open my own climbing wall in one location. What I learnt from that process was I need to be free and I need to travel and I need to see as many different people as possible. Share my coaching with people in lots of different locations and being trapped in that one location was not healthy for me. It was very hard because I had defined this wall and this business as my baby. It was like my business partner and I had a child together and I had to make a decision to leave that child and give him full custody of it. So it was incredibly hard but monumentally brilliant for my career and the rest of my life and I've never been happier. So yeah, follow your heart. ."
My career objective is to help a client of mine become a world champion and an Olympian, and my personal objective is to continue following my purpose and freedom and happiness. Transcript: "What are the one career objective and one personal objective that I want to accomplish before I die? The questions are deep. So, career objective, I work with a client whose life ambition is to be a world champion and an Olympian. And this person is more like a little sister to me, so my career objective would be to help her achieve her dream. And I'm doing everything I can to do that. And my other objective, I've got very philosophical on all of these answers now, so I won't go too deep. But fundamentally to continue following my purpose and freedom and happiness. Because when I do that, the right things happen and the stars align, so I'm just going to continue doing that. And there's not one specific thing I want to do before I die, because I know that if I align to my truth, all the right things will come my way anyway and I won't have to fight for one specific goal."
