I got involved with Challenged Athletes Foundation after running into another athlete who introduced me to them. I applied for their grant program and was awarded a bicycle that had been adapted for me, which changed my life as it made cycling much safer and more enjoyable. I have been involved with CAF ever since and I love encouraging new athletes to try sport. Transcript: "I got involved with challenged athletes foundation. In 2018, I was competing at a local 5K race and ran into another athlete who was a below-the-knee amputee. And we got chatting after the race and started talking about sport. I told him I had done a few triathlons and he asked if I had knew about the paratriathlon world in, believe it or not, in my late 30s, I had never been exposed to any para sports or the whole adaptive world. So he introduced me to see AF and encouraged me to apply for their annual grant program. And so I did that year and I was awarded a grant for a bicycle that was adopted for me. Because up until that point I was writing a regular road bike with no modifications. So my bike that I was awarded had electronic shifting and all of my gears and brakes routed to the left side so I can control them. So it was a game. Changer for me because I was then able to break safely. Not just using the front brake with my left hand and I was able to change gears for the first time in a race which felt like cheating. I always say if I like cheating to me because I was always having to re single speed prior to that. So I was able to finally shift break and it just really made cycling a lot safer and more enjoyable. So that is how I got involved. I have been involved with them ever since any time there are any adaptive sports or events happening. In my area was making a point to attend. The community is fantastic, and I love encouraging new athletes to try Sport. And that's how I got involved."
My bucket list includes skydiving, giving a TED Talk and meeting Kendrick Lamar. Transcript: "Can you tell us three things on your bucket list? So the first thing on my bucket list will probably be skydiving. I'm not too terrified of heights. And I always heard you should do something that you're scared of because that's where life starts. You know what I'm saying? So skydiving number one. Number two on my bucket list will probably be doing a TED Talk. I feel like that would be a great opportunity to tell my story and just impact a lot of people. And I just think it would be really cool. And number three, it would be to meet Kendrick Lamar. He is my favorite artist right now. That's my goal. So it would be an honor to meet him."
